Workshops

One-Day Introductory Workshop. This workshop briefly reviews evidence supporting the development of Compass - specifically its focus on higher-order dimensions of personality rather than symptoms. This will be followed by a description and demonstration of how to apply core Compass treatment modules, along with the similarities and differences between the Compass and other treatments for BPD, mood, anxiety, and related disorders Audio and videotaped illustrations of core treatment interventions (e.g., mindful awareness, emotion exposures) will be presented, along with detailed case examples involving comorbidity. Attendees will be invited to participate in exercises as part of these demonstrations.

Three-Day Introductory Workshop. This workshop provides more in depth coverage of the topics discussed in our one-day workshop. Attendees will be invited to discuss personal case examples as they apply to the Compass case conceptualization and treatment modules. Additional hands-on activities will be included.

One-day Intermediate Workshops.  For attendees with previous experience with Compass (or extensive CBT experience), our intermediate workshops are intended to provide more in depth information regarding several topics. Our advanced workshop topics include: 1) Applying Compass to Patients with Complex Comorbidities (e.g., severe depression, PTSD, other personality disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders) and 2) Advanced case formulation.

Customized Training Experiences. The UP Institute is happy to discuss individualized training needs with interested organizations. The length and content of our workshops can generally be altered in accordance with training needs.
